Guppies (Poecilia reticulata)
Overview: Guppies, also called millionfish due to their prolific breeding, originate from northern South America (Venezuela, Guyana, Barbados, Trinidad). They are colorful, hardy, and excellent for beginners.
Varieties: Tail types: Delta, Lyretail, Roundtail, Swordtail, and Fan. Color strains include snakeskin, mosaic, tuxedo, albino, and cobra patterns.
Care & Tank Setup:
- Minimum tank: 10 gallons for a small group
- Temperature: 74-82 degrees F (23-28 degrees C)
- pH: 6.8-7.8
Temperament:
Peaceful community fish Males can be persistent toward females, so maintain a 2-3 females per male ratio.
