Corydoras Catfish
Overview: Corydoras catfish are small, peaceful bottom-dwellers from South America, prized for their schooling behavior and hardy nature. They spend their time sifting through substrate for food while helping keep aquariums tidy.
Varieties: Popular species include Bronze Corydoras, Panda Corydoras, Peppered Corydoras, and Sterbai Corydoras. Each offers unique patterns and colors, but all share the same friendly personality.
Care & Tank Setup:
- Ideal tank size: Minimum 15-20 gallons for a group.
- Temperature: 72-78 degrees F
- pH: 6.5-7.5 [soft to moderate hardness]
- Diet: Sinking pellets, frozen foods (bloodworms, brine shrimp), and occasional veggies.
- Substrate: Soft sand or smooth gravel (black sand is ideal to protect barbels).
Temperament and Tankmates: Corydoras are community-safe fish, happiest in schools of 6+. They coexist well with tetras, rasboras, dwarf cichlids, livebearers, and peaceful gouramis. Avoid large aggressive species that may harass or eat them.
